I have to admit, I am a sucker for a BLT. But, having studied enough about food, I’ve come to learn that bacon, although tasty, is not the smartest food to be eating.
We all have our different reasons for eating/not eating something and for me, bacon falls under the “unclean foods” category in the Old Testament. What this means is that pigs never limit their diet to vegetation; they eat anything they find, including their own young and sick or dead pigs from the same pen.
Pigs, as adorable as they are, are basically scavengers.
I’m not saying I never eat it, I’d be lying if I did.….(I eat it maybe 1-2x year) and that you “shouldn’t” (that’s your decision).
What I am saying is that if you want to enjoy other options yet still love that “bacon-y” taste, Dulse may be something you wan to check out.
Dulse is a sea veggie that is used to strengthen the blood, adrenals and kidneys. If you are feeling weak or tired, dulse can be a great addition to your diet!

DLT + A (Dulse, Lettuce, Tomato & Avocado)
1/4 cup Dulse seaweed
2 pieces of your favorite gluten free bread
2 tomato slices
4 slices of avocado
Lettuce or your favorite greens (pictured is arugula)
Pull the dulse apart and remove any tiny shells. Pan fry the dulse in an oiled pan until the dulse crisps, turns color and smells “bacon-y” (black = burnt).
(You can also Dry fry the Dulse in a skillet over medium heat for a few minutes, until the leaves turn greenish.) Let cool.
Meanwhile, toast the bread (if desired) and slice tomato. Spread bread with veganaise. Top with dulse, greens, tomato and avocado. Enjoy!
