This has been my recent obsession.  It’s super easy to make, satisfying and delicious.  What could be better?

What’s Smart & Sexy About This Shake?

In my book, anything in a mason jar is smart and sexy (and I didn’t even grow up in the south).

Cocoa PowderIs there anything sexier than Chocolate?  Did you know that according to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (2005), Cocoa protects us from heart disease, which is one of the deadliest complications from Type 2 Diabetes–pretty darn smart if you ask me.

Stevia–If you aren’t familiar with Stevia, it’s a natural sweetener derived from the sweetleaf plant.  It’s about 300x sweeter than sugar so you only need a small amount to sweeten something (I like to use liquid Stevia opposed to powdered stevia–

For most of us with blood sugar issues, Stevia doesn’t tend to spike our blood sugar levels (but of course, as always, check in with yourself after having some).

Chocolate Banana Chia Shake

Ingredients:
Small Mason Jar (or other jar)
1 banana, chopped
Rice, Almond or Coconut Milk
3 Tablespoons Chia Seeds
2 Tablespoons Cocoa Powder
4-6 drops Stevia
½ teaspoon peppermint extract

Fill the mason jar half way up with “milk”, add in chia seeds, cocoa powder, Stevia and peppermint extract & shake.  Add in the chopped banana and remaining milk, shake again and place in the refrigerator to give chia seeds time to absorb the liquid. Shake occasionally.

You can let the shake sit for anywhere from 30 minutes to overnight depending on how thick you’d like it (the longer it sits, the thicker the shake).
