OMG is all I can say about this deliciousness. I have no idea how I stumbled across this recipe in my “surfing” but when I did I was very intrigued. And curious.

I get the chocolate and cherries but Zucchini?  Seriously?


Not wanting to wait to freeze the milk like the original recipe calls for, I decided to put my own twist on it.

Screen Shot 2016-06-16 at 1.59.03 PMSince I always have frozen bananas in the freezer I decided to add one to make it super “creamy” and I also added Chia seeds instead of the Almond Butter because I am mildly obsessed with Chia Seeds and will put them into almost anything.

I love that this shake is packed with magnesium–both from the cocoa and from the Zucchini–which is required for energy production & helps to reduce the symptoms of PMS.

{As a total aside, as I wrote that I realized that I so rarely have any PMS symptoms, if I experience anything, my energy levels fluctuate very mildly.  That’s a far cry from how my periods used to be–moody for the week prior, exhausted, bloated, cramping, diarrhea–all around not pleasant.  I love Smart Sexy Living! Back to the smoothie….

In addition to magnesium, the cherries help you avoid premature aging and add years to your life.  The bananas help to normalize elimination (if that’s a problem you have) and the chia seeds are rich in Omega-3’s which help to reduce inflammation and leave you feeling satisfied.

There isn’t anything in this smoothie that isn’t Smart or Sexy!

If you’ve been craving a thick, delicious chocolate-y shake, you’ll thank me for this one!  It’s great alone or topped with some Coconut Whipped Cream.

{Yield 6 cup, which for me would be 2 servings}

2 cups rice or coconut milk
1 medium zucchini, cut into chunks
2 cups frozen sweet cherries
1 medium frozen banana
¼ cup cocoa powder (I use Rapunzel’s Organic)
2 Tablespoons Chia Seeds
4 dates, pitted

Coconut Cream & Cherries for topping

Combine all ingredients (except coconut cream) in a Vita-mix or high-speed blender until smooth.

Top with a dollop of Coconut Whipped Cream and Cherry.  Enjoy!

**Note** Since taking an IgG test and learning that I can’t do bananas I’ve made this with avocado instead of banana and it’s just as delicious.
